Not sure if this belongs on the "Machine News" forum, so this one will suffice.

Today's "Word of the Day" on Merriam-Webster Online is savant. Check out the second example sentence under the definition, which mentions "a Pink Floyd tribute show", and probably describes many of us who trek to show after show after show. http://www.merriam-webster.com/word-of- ... 011/03/21/

The band, of course, is our beloved TM, and the example came from the great review of the Feb 5 show at the Scottish Rite Auditorium. Even though The Machine isn't mentioned by name on Merriam-Webster, it's still a pretty cool reference.

A link to the review is on the TM homepage (under Latest News) and here: http://www.citypaper.net/blogs/critical ... eatre.html

BTW, fantastic show in Charlottesville last Friday. Wish I could have made it to Raleigh on Saturday.

Pretty cool! 8) I subscribe to A.Word.A.Day, and their word usage in a sentence is often taken from recent articles/blogs. I've seen some interesting choices, but never one relating to The Machine. Good eye! I actually would've also recognized that as something I'd read in a Machine review, but I never would've remembered which one (without googling, that is).

This reminds me of something else... at the end of my A.Word.A.Day emails, there's always an unrelated "Though for Today", a random thought-provoking quote. I keep a running list of the ones I like. I once saved one that struck my funnybone when I imagined it describing OUR Machine, plus there's the Orwell/Animals connection too... here it is:

The machine has got to be accepted, but it is probably better to accept it rather as one accepts a drug -- that is, grudgingly and suspiciously. Like a drug, the machine is useful, dangerous, and habit-forming. The oftener one surrenders to it the tighter its grip becomes. -George Orwell, novelist (1903-1950)

Also, here's another one I saved because it reminded me of The Machine (among some other great bands):

When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece. -John Ruskin, author, art critic, and social reformer (1819-1900)
