hi. joe here. i am the guitar player/singer...
there are lots of places that i love to play , but if i had to pick one...
i would say , Penns Peak in Jim Thorpe PA. i love the size of the stage , and the sound there is wonderful , from my vantage point...the backstage area...the crowd...the vibe...i love it...and well be playing there on new years eve this year...i am very psyched...i would say my favorite song to perform changes over time , but probably "the final cut" it is very difficult to sing , but i love love love it....

Thanks Joe. The final cut is also one of my favorites. I got see you perform it about a year or 2 ago at Westbury. It was great! Going to see you at B.B. Kings in December and maybe in Tarrytown in October. Would love to see it again. What about Todd, Ryan and Scott?

Hey Machine Fan ( great screen name!)
Some of my favorite venues are; The State Theatre in both State College, Pa & Virginia, Love the Norva, and The Whittaker in Harrisburg. Can't forget some of the gorgeous theatres in Europe. There was one that we played in 2004 but I haven't the foggiest idea where it was.
Oh yeah, I must admit that I love playing at Lupos in Providence, RI.
But some political B.S is keeping us out of there for a little bit.
Songs- I'm always excited to play; Don't Leave me now, anything from The Final Cut, Time , Terripin, loving the Momentary Lapse material that's creeping back in, Set The Controls, and anything old.
Songs that I miss playing - " Dogs Of War." I love the feel of that song, especially when the time changes and the Sax solo comes in.
Cheers
Todd

Thanks Todd.. One of my other favorites is Time. You do a kick ass job at the begginning. Better than PF did it. Thanks again and see you soon.

Amen to that! As a matter of fact, yesterday I went to the screening of Remember That Night, and I carefully watched Gilmour's drummer do that... now don't get me wrong, he did a real fine job... but I truly think Todd does it better. Glad to hear that HE enjoys it as well. Also good to hear that both Joe and Todd enjoy playing Final Cut material... I'd like to hear more of that at shows, and I know I'm not alone. And I don't know why you don't play Dogs of War anymore, but I vote to bring it back... I would LOVE that!

Out of the few songs in the Pink Floyd catalogue which you haven't had a chance to play yet, which would you like to play the most? In addition, is there any chance we'll get to hear these songs anytime soon?
Thanks,
Oleg

On a strictly personal note, I'm foaming at the mouth to do more "FINAL CUT."
Presently, we're getting the rep back to where it was before Nail left, and adding a few more.
Slowly but steadily we'll get to everything ( that we want to play )
Below is part of the process we go through when we're deciding to add a new material.
1) Does the band love this song 2) Will the audience love this song 3) Will this song stand the "test of time." Not every song can be played over and over with conviction. 4) Lastly, how can we best utilize our rehearsal time? Learning obscurities, deep cuts, or crowd pleasers.
Thanks for all the questions.

Love the insight to the process! I've definitely noticed songs work their way into the rotation, Coming Back To Life comes to mind. Would be interested to know when a song meets criteria 1-3 how much time does it take before you add it to the regular play list?
Thanks
Gary

I'm so glad to hear the band wants to play more Final Cut, I don't understand why people don't like it and I would love to hear the band doit in the entirety.
I guess I have a couple burning questions I've been wanting to ask for a while:
First, how did you learn to recreate the PF sound so well, all the different noises and intricacies, and solos?
Second, how can I get those 2 Machine songs on that Vocab Rock cd? Can't find it and I always wanted to hear a Machine original.
Third, how can I be your roadie this summer!

eru .. joe here..
first , i wrote those songs for a specific project..there were many guidelines i had to meet..for instance,i had to use specific words in every line , and they had to have postitive messages and also they had to be upbeat...quite a project...you can go to "definedmind.com" and that is the site for the whole project.
as far as recreating the floyd sound...i have been listening to floyd since i was a little kid. i learned how to play the guitar by figuring out those songs as the albums were realeased...i never "try" to sound like pink floyd or dave gilmore...i just play the songs i know so well.....but i do play a stratocaster....and before me and todd started the machine i played a les paul....so there you go....keep comming to the shows...more new stuff comming...thanks

Thanks a lot Joe. For anyone wondering, just search "Defined Mind" on iTunes, you can buy "Shine" and "Sublime" there. I have to say, they're pretty awesome, good rockers!
